It’s Friday again and it’s time for our weekly celebration of drinks! Today’s idea features gin. I love gin. Not as much as I love wine, but it’s sure in top 3. Most people like to drink it with tonic, ice and a lemon slice, which is classic and delicious, no doubt for that. I love it as a combo, too. But here is a little upgrade to this cocktail and I think you will love it.
You need elderberry syrup for this drink to work. It’s made from the flowers of the plant, washed and soaked with sugar in twice as much water as they are. Then, depending on the amount of sugar you used, the syrup can be stored in refrigerator up to 2 months. If you sterilize it, it’s good for up to a year.
So, now to the cocktail. You need:
- 50 gr gin
- 1 tbsp elderberry syrup
- 1 slice of lemon
- water and tonic
- edible rose petals for decoration (optional)
- ice cubes
In a big glass, pour the gin and the syrup, add the water and stir. Top with tonic and ice. Put the lemon in and decorate, if you feel like it. This can also be prepared in a big sangria-like jug for parties. Beware: you won’t feel the gin and it’s super fresh, so watch the quantity you drink in order not to have hangover the next morning!
Cheers and enjoy!
